A Supposed-to-be Normal Wednesday Turned Into an Unexpected Midweek Date

A Supposed-to-be Normal Wednesday Turned Into an Unexpected Midweek Date

Last Wednesday, May 7, was supposed to be just another regular day. You know—wake up, make coffee, turn on the laptop, start working from home, and hopefully finish before sunset. That’s the usual routine, right?

But sometimes, life throws in a little surprise. What started as a simple errand to pay our electric bill turned into a spontaneous midweek “gimmick” with my husband. And honestly? I’m not complaining!

The Real Reason We Stepped Outside: Paying the Electric Bill

We both work from home, and we rarely go out on weekdays unless it’s absolutely necessary. That day, the reason we left the house was to pay our electric bill at Robinsons Butuan. That’s it—nothing fancy, just an errand that couldn’t be delayed any longer, especially since it was already close to the disconnection date. ๐Ÿ˜…

I thought we’d just be in and out of the mall. But as usual, plans changed. And I’m glad they did.

My Husband’s Haircut Plan at Macho Mucho

After paying the bill, the next plan was to head straight to Macho Mucho, my husband’s go-to barber. He’s very loyal to his favorite barber there—like, no one else is allowed to touch his hair. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But when we got there, surprise! His barber was on a one-hour break.

Now, my husband being the loyal customer he is, refused to have his hair done by someone else. So instead of sitting there waiting, we decided to do what anyone would do when there’s time to kill and an empty stomach to fill: have lunch.

Lunch at BL & SG Butuan Lechon and Seafood Grill

We ended up dining at BL & SG Butuan Lechon and Seafood Grill, and to my delight, the service was great this time!

Let me explain—our previous experience at this restaurant wasn’t exactly the best. We were with Miles and his friends then, and we ended up walking out because the waiter who assisted us that day seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I was asking simple questions about the menu, and she answered like I was bothering her (tomboy). No smile, no effort. It made us feel so unwelcome that we literally stood up and looked for another place to eat.

But this time was different. The waiter who assisted us was super accommodating, polite, and genuinely helpful. It made a huge difference. We felt welcomed and valued as customers, and that alone already made our meal more enjoyable. Good service really adds flavor to the food, don’t you think?

We finished our meal happy and satisfied—and with our moods lifted, too!

Working Inside the Mall? Yes, That’s Me!

Of course, I already knew I’d be waiting again once my husband went back to Macho Mucho. This time, he was scheduled not just for a haircut, but a full hair treatment, which usually takes time. And if there’s anything I’ve learned as a work-from-home freelancer, it’s that I can literally work anywhere as long as I bring my tools.

So yes—I brought my laptop with me. ๐Ÿ˜„

While he was in the barber chair getting pampered, I found a quiet spot in the mall, plugged in my laptop, and started working. I answered emails, wrote some drafts, and even finished a few client tasks. Honestly, it felt refreshing to work in a different environment. Sometimes, you just need a change of scenery to boost your productivity and creativity.

Ending the Day at Thai Buran Massage Spa

After his haircut and treatment session, we both felt like rewarding ourselves a little more. And since we were already outside, we said, “Why not end the day with a massage?”

So we went to Thai Buran along Montilla Boulevard for some much-needed relaxation.

And oh my goodness—it was so much better than our previous massage experience. Do you remember that one? The one where we felt more pain than relief? I’ll never forget it. The pressure was way too much, I remember grabbing the edge of the massage bed like my life depended on it. ๐Ÿ˜…

Thankfully, this time was a 180-degree turn. The therapists were professional, the ambiance was calming, and the massage itself? Heavenly. I could feel the stress melting away with every press and stretch. We both walked out of Thai Buran feeling like new people—lighter, calmer, and genuinely relaxed.

A Day That Wasn’t Planned, But Perfectly Unfolded

Looking back, I can’t help but smile. It’s funny how a random Wednesday turned into a spontaneous midweek date. We left the house with just one goal in mind—to pay the electric bill. But we ended up:

  • Having lunch together at a place that redeemed itself with great service,

  • Getting his hair done the way he liked it,

  • Me, working in a random nook inside the mall like a digital nomad,

  • And both of us capping off the day with a peaceful massage session.

Sometimes, the best moments are the ones that aren’t planned. There was no big occasion, no fancy itinerary, and no expectations. We just went with the flow—and it turned out to be one of those quiet, simple days that actually felt special.

A Little Reminder to Take a Break

If you’re like me and you often forget to step away from the screen, this is your sign to take a break. Go out, even if it’s just for an errand. Turn it into a mini adventure. Bring your laptop if you must, but allow yourself a little breather. Have lunch somewhere new. Treat yourself. Recharge.

Because life isn’t just about ticking off tasks and meeting deadlines. It’s also about creating memories, even on a regular Wednesday.

P.S. Next time, I think I’ll join my husband for a hair treatment and massage too. Equal pampering for both of us, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
